Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Wool processes, what stays on your device, and the choices available to you.
Last updated July 28, 2026
The short version
Wool is designed to collect less. Your saved transcription history, personal dictionary, and voice snippets stay on your device. Speech and transcript content must be processed to provide live transcription and cleanup, but Wool does not store that content in its application database.
Information we process
We process information you provide when you create and use an account, along with limited technical and usage information needed to operate Wool.
- Account information, including your name, email address, password credential, verification status, and account timestamps.
- Session information, such as a session token, expiry time, and device user agent. Wool has disabled application-level IP address tracking in its authentication configuration.
- Speech audio sent for live transcription and the resulting transcript sent for cleanup.
- Dictionary entries, snippets, tone preferences, and formatting instructions included with a cleanup request.
- Numeric usage totals, including word count, recording duration, dictation count, and words per minute, plus an opaque event identifier used to prevent duplicate counting.
How speech processing works
After you authenticate, Wool requests a short-lived transcription token. Audio is streamed to our transcription provider, Deepgram. The resulting transcript and any context you choose to provide are sent through Wool’s Cloudflare-hosted service to Groq for text cleanup.
Wool’s application service handles these requests transiently. It does not persist request bodies, audio, transcripts, dictionary entries, snippets, or saved transcription history. Service providers may process this information under their own service terms and retention controls.
How we use information
We use information only for operating, securing, and improving Wool.
- Create and protect your account and active sessions.
- Provide live transcription, cleanup, formatting, and usage-limit features.
- Diagnose reliability and security issues using sampled infrastructure logs and traces.
- Prevent abuse, enforce our Terms, and meet legal obligations.
- Understand aggregate product usage without storing the words you dictated.
Storage and retention
Account records, sessions, and numeric usage totals are stored in Cloudflare D1. Account information is retained while your account is active and as reasonably needed for security, legal, and operational purposes. Expired sessions and operational records may be retained for a limited period before deletion.
Transcription history and product personalization content are stored locally by the Wool desktop application. Removing the application or clearing its local data may permanently remove that information.
Service providers and disclosure
Wool currently relies on Cloudflare for application hosting and account storage, Deepgram for live speech transcription, and Groq for transcript cleanup. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell personal information or use dictated content for targeted advertising.
Cookies and local storage
The website uses essential cookies or similar storage for authentication and security. Wool does not currently use advertising cookies. The desktop application uses local device storage for product settings and private history.
Your choices and rights
You may access or update account information through Wool, clear locally stored product data from your device, or request account deletion through the support channel provided in the application. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export personal information and to object to certain processing.
Children and policy changes
Wool is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. We may update this policy as the product changes. Material updates will be communicated in the product or on this page, and the date above will be revised.
Contact
For privacy questions or requests, contact the Wool team through the support channel provided in the application.
